I played a show at the wonderful Pete’s Candy Store last night. I was joined by Rob Pawlings on bass and Jacob Pleakis on keys, and we had a real blast! Huge thanks to everyone who made it down for our set, it means a lot. I’ll hopefully play again in Pete’s in the not too distant future. Here’s a snap from last night…
I am delighted to announce that I will play the wonderful Rockwood Music Hall on the 11th of May at 11pm – so get it in your diaries good people of NYC!! This will be my second show at Rockwood, and if last show is anything to go by then it is going to be a great night all round.
for the past two days I have been locked in the studio working on recording some new tunes. The vibe of these recordings will be very stripped down, and I want to get across a really raw live feel. I have been working on writing loads of new material in the past month, and all the time I had this recording session in mind, so it is nice to really get stuck into the recording process at last! The tracks are being produced by a fantastic songwriter by the name of Warren Malone, and he is the ideal man for the job . Warren produced his own latest album, and a few other select singer-songwriters that reside in NYC, and I was blown away by the feel of the recordings. After two days we have made some serious progress, and I look forward to unleashing these new tunes on you all asap!
For the meantime, check out this little rendition of ‘it slows down’ – Warrens favorite Building Pictures track, and recorded just yesterday in the studio.
Also… I have not one but TWO shows in NYC tonight. First up is a really exciting evening in the Red Room (85 E 4th St (3rd Floor). Im on at 9pm and all proceeds are going to the relief effort in Japan. Here is the poster -
The second show is in a venue called “Session 73″ – Which is on 1st avenue, on the corner of 73rd street. The line up for the ‘Original Sessions’ is pretty amazing tonight and you can view it here - http://www.sessionoriginals.blogspot.com/. For anyone in the neighborhood I am on at 11pm!
Here is a few snaps for you from my show at Bar4 a couple of nights ago that were taken by my friend Shane. What was supposed to be a solo set turned in a duet when I noticed that the venue had a little piano in the corner…
Tomorrow night I’ll be doing a solo set in Park Slope, Brooklyn, at the wonderful Bar 4. I’m on at 11pm.
Do yourself a favour and get down early to see my wonderful friend Abby Payne performing! Cheers to Shira for booking me, and for the lovely poster below
The good people at Rockwood Music Hall recorded my set last week. I want to thank in house sound man Drew for the amazing job he did, and also my dear friend Michael Keeney for help with mastering the recordings. Here is my favorite from the live set, and its ‘Corner of the Room.’ This is one of the earliest tunes that I ever recorded, and it is so nice for me to listen to it now with Jacob, Rob and Kenny all jamming over it in fine style
